Abstract: This paper raises some theoretical and empirical reservations for this position. It will argue that a firm's profitability is crucially bound up with the question of information, and that competitive market forces influence information control structures within a firm and that they require a necessary separation between management and workers. Thus, worker control strategies which focus on employee access to company information and the eradication of distinct 'closed' managerial groups are not feasible.
