The Supermarket

  Abstract: The article discusses the various aspects of supermarkets including the types of supermarkets, the growth of supermarkets, and the idea of trading up. The author begins by describing the three important types of supermarkets which are the full concession public market, the mixed owner- and concession-operated type, and the complete owner-operated or non-concession type. He then focuses on the different areas in the country that have spawned the growth of supermarkets. The idea of trading up refers to supermarkets offering higher quality products once they have gained a foothold in the industry from primarily low prices.
