Co-operation in the Market Place: The Marketing Activities of Worker Co-operatives
作者:     来源:中国农民合作社研究网     日期:2011-08-26  浏览:117

Abstract: The title of this article was chosen after some deliberation, as the use of the words marketing and co-operatives together could create ambiguity in the reader's mind. Marketing co-operatives, which are common in the agricultural and horticultural sectors, normally provide centralized buying or distribution functions. On the other hand, Co-operative marketing occurs where several self-employed individuals, companies or co-operatives, come together to share some or all of their marketing and distribution activities. On its own the word co-operative refers to a willingness to act in conjunction with others, whereas worker co-operatives the subject of this article are more clearly defined as businesses which are owned and controlled only by those people working within them. A body of knowledge has been built up around the subjects of marketing for non-profit organizations and social marketing, but until recently little has been written about the marketing activities of businesses which have both profit centered objectives and social objectives businesses such as worker co-operatives and community enterprises.

Subjects: BUSINESS enterprises; PRODUCER cooperatives; MARKETING; SOCIAL marketing; CONTRACT labor; NONPROFIT organizations; SOCIAL policy
