Abstract:Discusses a study which identified the structural features of markets which provide inducements for consumers to form cooperatives and derived conditions under which consumer welfare is enhanced through cooperation. Importance of scale economies to organizing stable cooperatives; Illustration of the process of cooperation through a game theoretic framework; Information on the pricing and financing arrangements to insure maximization of consumer welfare.
